Robbery attack at Emir Palace: Niger Assembly summons CP

As reactions continue to trail Tuesday’s robbery incident at the palace of the Emir of Minna in Niger State, Alhaji Umar Farouk Bahago, members of the state House of Assembly have invited the Commissioner of Police, CP, Ayodele Ogundele.

CP Ogundele is expected to give a situation report on the incident at the palace of the Emir and the general security situation within Minna and its environs on Monday.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin, made this disclosure at the palace of the Emir on Friday when he led other members on a sympathy visit to the monarch.

Recall that suspected armed robbers stormed the Palace of the Emir on Tuesday afternoon at about 4:30pm and attacked his cashier while he was returning from a commercial bank where he had gone to withdraw money meant for the salaries of the staff at the palace.

Two security guards were, however, shot by the robbers before forcefully collecting the money from the cashier and escaped.

According to the Speaker, “We have summoned the Commissioner of Police to appear before the house to brief us on the update from the robbery incident and the general security situation in Minna and its environs, and the way forward.

“The House will work closely and give the Executive Arm of the Government the maximum cooperation to ensure that not only Minna, but the entire state is secured. Security remains the top priority of the present administration.”

Responding, the Emir Bahago, thanked the legislators for their visit over the robbery incident, while expressing gratitude to God that no lives were lost.

According to him, “We assure the State Assembly of the cooperation of the State Council of the Traditional Rulers towards ensuring that the 10th Assembly succeeds in its legislative functions for the overall benefit of the people.”
